If high efficiency for your entire compressor system is important…
…consider BHS integral gear units.
Integrally-geared compressors compress gases to higher energy levels than conventional compressors, or produce additional drive output using gear expanders. As the name suggests, BHS integral gears form an integral unit with the compressor or expander they serve.

The particular benefits of integrally-geared compressors are their lower costs compared with other types of compressor, a constantly expanding range of applications, extremely high efficiency and low footprint.
Compressors with multi-shaft integral gears can also incorporate inter-stage cooling, and other machines such as electric motors, steam, gas turbines and turboexpanders.
Plant engineers and operators prefer BHS integral gears because of their ability to transmit very high outputs and speeds reliably with low power losses. The basis of this is their optimal gear design, plus state-of-the-art calculations in areas such as rotor dynamics. Synergy between every component—impeller, bearings, toothing, sealing systems and casing—ensures competitive advantage for our customers. BHS brings to integral gear units the know-how the company has built up over more than 35 years.
Integral gears are designed and manufactured at BHS with up to 10 compressor stages, weights of more than 50 t and gear diameters up to approximately 3 metres (10 ft). The design of the gear wheel set is normally single helical with thrust cone—and BHS has the world’s greatest wealth of experience in thrust cone technology. We offer standard designs and also special solutions, such as compound gear or steam turbine drive. Using integral gears, these options result in very compact and efficient designs.
The technical demands of plant operators are constantly increasing. These are then passed on by OEMs to the gear manufacturers. For BHS, this means mastering higher speeds, higher outputs and higher pitchline velocities. Integrally geared compressors are also advancing into process areas that have previously been covered by free-standing axial and radial compressors and piston compressors. We are proud to be working with our customers to develop and market new technical solutions for air separation, oil and natural gas processing, and the chemical industry.
